I first came across Flaxseed Oil six years ago when it was prescribed to me by my optician after I had undergone laser eye surgery. My eyes were dry and the eye drops, initially prescribed to me, weren’t working. I returned to my optician with my complaint and they wrote me a prescription for Flaxseed Oil. Glancing at the prescription, I presumed it was for a prescription medicine so I was surprised when the chemist pulled a dark brown bottle from a fridge they had.

The benefits were immediate. Within a week my eyes felt a lot better and when I woke each morning I could open my eyes again which was a big relief. Within four weeks people were commenting on how clear my skin was and how healthy I looked, so my curiosity about Flaxseed Oil grew.

I read all I could on this wonderful product and was amazed by what I found and the benefits associated to it.

So what is in Flaxseed Oil?

Flaxseed Oil is rich in EFA’s (essential fatty acids). Essential fatty acids are just that… ‘essential’. They comprise of Omega 3 and Omega 6 and are called ‘essential fats’ or ‘good fats’ because they are required for normal cell, tissue, gland and organ function, all of which contribute to optimal health.

More specifically, Flaxseed Oil contains Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids along with B vitamins, potassium, lecithin, magnesium, fiber, protein, zinc and also provides approximately 50% more omega-3 oils than what you could get from taking fish oil, minus that ‘fishy’ after taste :-)
