Creatine in Fitness

Creatine acts as an instant energy provider for your body. This makes Creatine a brilliant supplement for a wide range of athletes and fitness enthusiasts, as they need those sudden bursts of energy very frequently.

Increased amounts of Creatine will dramatically increase endurance and enhance muscle recovery. Creatine also helps with the synthesis of protein, which further promotes muscle growth and development.

Creatine is particularly effective if you are looking to accelerate your training progress. Adding Creatine to your nutritional plan will increase your endurance, whilst assisting your recovery, ensuring rapid progress towards achieving your training goals.

The ‘Muscle’ Science

The main fuel for your mucles during high intensity muscle activity is Adenosine Triphosphate or ATP. As your muscles are worked Triphosphate loses a phosphate molecule and becomes a DiPhosphate or ADP. This phosphate molecule is used to create energy for your muscles. In order to create more energy for your muscles DIPhosphate must become TriPhosphate again. This is where Creatine comes in. Creatine acts as a reservoir of Phosphate for your body. The more Creatine that is availaible to the body, the faster your body can produce TriPhosphate molecules, so that more and more energy is available for your muscles.

Creatine Forms

Creatine comes in a number of forms, the most widely used being Creatine Monohydrate and Creatine Ethly Ester.

Creatine Monohydrate:

The classic form of Creatine found in supplements Creatine Monohydrate is an extremely effective supplement. Creatine Monohydrate is absorbed slowly by the body so, in order ensure maximum absorption, Creatine Monohydrate is best taken with a simple carb drink (apple juice, grape juice, cranberry juice etc…) as this spikes the Creatine into you body quicker.

It may be necessary to go through a loading phase, when using Creatine Monohydrate, for the 1st 5 days of use, to assist in muscle saturation of Creatine. This involves taking 4 servings of Creatine, daily for 5 days. This is then reduced to 2 servings per day.

Creatine Ethly Ester:

A newer variant of Creatine, Creatine Ethly Ester is Creatine Monohydrate with an Ester molecule attached. The Ester molecule allows the Creatine to be absorbed quicker by your body without the need for glucose or carbohydrates. Due to the increased absorption levels of Creatine Ethyl Ester, it is not necessary to go through a loading phase when using this type of Creatine.
